12th Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development

On May 17, 2021 CAREC launched the on-line registration and collection of applications on the online mobile platform – http://calp.carececo.org/ for the 12th Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development (CALP) which plans to be held online from 20 to 24 September 2021.
Due to the COVID-2019 pandemic, this year the 12th CALP will be organized online. The collection of applications will continue from May 15 until August 15, 2021. CALP will be organized in cooperation with the UN Environment Program, OSCE Programme Office in Nur-Sultan, EU Switch Asia, World Bank and OSCE Secretariat.
The 12th CALP will be mainly focused on sustainable consumption and production, circular/ green economy, management of water and energy resources and their significant impact on food supply and security, ecosystem services and biodiversity conservation, transition towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient and circular economy. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the development of Central Asia countries and Afghanistan will be discussed from the point of view of recovery of economies, environment, and adaptation to the new challenges in relation to the health and education systems.
The overarching goal of the 12th CALP is to provide and enhance necessary knowledge and capacity to young leaders from government bodies and other stakeholders in order to facilitate and enable their switching to Sustainable Consumption and Production/circular economy in Central Asia and Afghanistan.
The CALP provides a neutral regional youth’ dialogue platform for discussing water cooperation, climate change, energy efficiency, as well as coronavirus pandemic and its impact in the context of sustainable development of Central Asia and Afghanistan. Among the CALP participants are representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs), state, and academic sectors. Separately, it is worth noting that the CALP graduates are actively involved into activities in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development. This contributes to strengthening the role and voice of young professionals in regional cooperation.
Application submission should be done online. In 2021 CAREC collected applications from May 17 to August 15, 2021. The interested applicants from Central Asia and Afghanistan are recommended to complete online registration by clicking on the link – http://calp.carececo.org/ and proceed with following steps:
- Fill out the online Application Form (in English OR Russian).
- Upload your essay (in English OR Russian, maximum 500 words).
- Upload your CV (in English OR Russian).
- Upload recommendation letter from the state body (for civil servants only).
As stated above, in addition to the online application, applicants should submit their CV as well as an essay of no more than 500 words. The essay should explain the desire to join and benefit from this programme, and explain how you are going to use the knowledge gained in the CALP.
The application and the attached documents must be completed and uploaded online not later than August 15, 2021. Only fully completed applications are accepted for consideration. Participation in the leadership program is free.
Selection results: the selection committee will carefully consider all received applications and documents. Selected participants will be informed not later than August 31, 2021.
Preference will be given to the applicants between the ages of 28 to 40, with an appropriate working experience in at least 3 of the following fields: environmental protection, sustainable consumption and production, green economy, circular economy, water management, climate change and sustainable development.
Additional information:
In 2021 total up to 35 participants will be selected from five CA countries and Afghanistan. It is also expected to invite the CALP successful alumni as online speakers to share their experience and success stories.
Language of the Programme – Russian and English, with simultaneous translation
Financing: OSCE Programme Office in Nur-Sultan, EU Switch Asia, World Bank and OSCE Secretariat
Venue: Almaty, Kazakhstan, as main coordination host, with candidates taking the course from their respective countries because of travel restrictions due to current pandemic.
Considering that the Programme and its sessions and courses will be done online, it is necessary that candidates ensure that they have access to high quality internet connections at their respective private or office locations.
